Three policies that I found that worked towards the american mission was the signing of the declaration of independence, the treaty of paris in 1783, and the jacksonian democracy. From my understanding of the american mission, it seems like it was basically a mission to obtain independence and finally break free of the hold that europe had on America. The declaration of independence was exactly what its title holds. Declaring their independence from Britain. The treaty of paris in 1783 was another precaution to end the war and free themselves of British control. The jacksonian democracy was large in history making because it shifted from a first party system to the second party system. Instead of just looking at one certain specific group of people to elect they had two different groups of people to choose from and vote for the person from which ever party they thought was best.
1. Louisiana Purchase- This purchase helped solidify the US as a more powerful nation, by expanding they opened up doors to more people moving west and settling in those lands. The purchase contributed to the mission of the US because it gave them more land for more people to live on and make a living off the land. It would lead to more major cities and trading posts that would also strengthen the economy.
2. Whiskey Rebellion-This event was not necessarily part of the plan but it would contribute in the fact the US gov’t was able to show is strength to its own people and it let them know that although the gov’t is for the people and by the people it does not mean that you can just go and decided to have a rebellion when you think something isn’t fair.
3. Forced Evacuation Of British Outposts in the North- This plays into the plan because it was a chance for the US to flex its muscles a bit and force the British who were monopolizing fur trading and harassing and taking US shipmen and forcing them into the royal navy. Washington sent a representative to the north to handle the US’s business and after intense discussion the British were forced out and they no longer were a thorn in our side.
There were many policies that helped form the United States into a new country free and powerful country. There were also many influential people that helped shape this country into what we now live in, but there were a select few that helped the United States grow in the early stages of this country. The first person that I think had unique policies that helped with Americas mission was our first president George Washington. I feel that he wanted to get other countries out of the United States to help with the development of our own country. He sent our chief justice at that time John Jay, over to London to help come up with a settlement with the British. The came up with a plan to evacuate all the British forts in the U.S. , and would help pay for the damages done to our ships. I also believe that Washington wanted the people of the United States to go along with our new plan as a new country. He sent 15000 troops to a protest over paying some taxes, to Pittsburgh to prevent any type of uprising. Along with president George Washington there was Thomas Jefferson who became president. It appeared that Jefferson wanted to expand the United States into a bigger nation. He developed a deal to buy New Orleans and the Louisiana Province off of France. The made a deal to purchase these territories for about $15 million. The last person that I thought was very influential to the development of the United States was President Andrew Jackson. He was very influential in removing the Native Americans, and putting them in there own territories. He came up with a policy called the removal policy. This policy was to help Native Americas to sell their land and move into new land that was provided for them in Oklahoma and Arkansas. I’m sure there were many other people that were influential to the mission of the United States, but these three people were in my opinion a big part of the development of our country.
One of the major missions of the United States in 1776 to 1840 was the expansion west. From the readings one can tell that every person who took office had a different mind set on how to do this, but all of the men in authority knew they wanted to go west. During Jefferson’s presidency there was two policies on this idea. The first one in my opinion was the most fair of the two. This process taught the natives the more European way. It also allowed them to keep their land as long as they would farm it as a single-family farm. The government would then send missionaries to teach the natives Christianity. If they did not follow this religion they were permitted to create their own churches, schools, and government buildings. This concept was not completely fair, but at least they were not killing the entire race. This idea failed though once they made their own governments and the United States government did not want them to be independent of them. This policy asked the natives to volunteer to go westward. Even though it sounds like it was voluntary, if they did not move they were usually killed or dragged behind a carriage as a way of force. The ones who did make the voyage were promised assistance on their long journey. This assistance never happened though, therefor many of the people died on their journey. “Trail of Tears” is what this trail became known because of the large amount of Native Americans that died on it. An example of this great death of the Cherokee nation, in 1938 to 1939 four thousand of the fifteen thousand natives died on this journey. Both of these choices to rid of the natives showed the path that America was on. It wanted to become a large country and nothing would stand in their way of moving west and becoming rich. At this time in history not only did the nation have the idea of expansion on their mind, they were trying to get the government started. To jump-start this government they needed people to be involved. This I why in the 1820s voting rights were broadened, before this time only white males who owned land were permitted to vote. Then gradually white men with very little land or white men who served in the militia were permitted to vote. Following this all white males were allowed to vote. This increased voting rate tremendously. Voting rates were still low most likely to the non-private ways of voting in this time. I believe that the government wanted people to be involved. If a group of people feel like they are being listened to they are less likely to revolt against their government. Before all of this happened though the Philadelphia Convention took place. It took place in May 1787, and the purpose was to change the Articles of confederation to better fit the needs of a very quickly changing nation. During the convention two policies were proposed, the Virginia plan and the New Jersey Plan. Neither plan was accepted because; they were to the benefit of either their large or small state. That is when a compromise was brought up to the people at the convention. This plan was called the Connecticut Compromise. The made both parties happy. The House of Representatives was based on population, and the Senate had two representatives from each state no matter the population. These rules are still in affect today and they contributed to the mission of making America have a stable government. This was only the beginning of America’s disagreements with policies, but it is the framework that was needed.
The three policies I found that support the American believe in Manifest Destiny where…
1. The Monroe Doctrine. a. The Monroe Doctrine stated that any further efforts by European countries to colonize land or interfere with the states in the Americas would be viewed as acts of aggression requiring U.S. intervention b. President Monroe introduced the doctrine on December 2, 1823 when he was enraged at the actions being executed around him. 2. 3.
1. Louisiana Purchase- This action taken by the United States helped show Europe and the rest of the world that they were an up and coming power. This purchase also provided far more land for the American population to expand, and therefore led to the growth of the economy. 2. The Treaty of Paris- This treaty solidified the victory America achieved in their Revolutionary war. The Treaty of Paris did not only bring peace and victory, but for the first time America could be recognized as a free standing country no longer under British rule. This document signifies everything that the Unites States fought for in the American Revolution, victory and therefore freedom. 3. United States Constitution- This document was created by the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The Constitution gave structure to the United States government creating the system of checks and balances between the three parts of the federal and state governments at the time, and also provided the guidelines for the first monetary systems of the new America.
I believe that the mission of America during this time is to develop to construct a solid government in hopes to expand and create an independent nation. The first artical I found to support this concept is the Constitution. The Constitution is the framework from which our government runs. The creation of the Constitution helped too develop the grounds that America needed in order to expand. To follow up with the second part of my mission statement, I chose the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase exemplifies the want to expand. The Declaration of Independence is the best way i could signify the final part of my mission statement, the creation of an independent nation. Although there are many struggles that occur between America and other nations, this is the first document of America gaining independence from Britain. Thus, these three documents exemplify the mission of America wanting to create a solid framework in order to expand and gain independence.
America's goal has always been to create a "free" society. While the word free is used liberally in the US, the main goal has been to protect a free society of people who are tolerant and share some common beliefs. I think the most important part of the US mission is the protection aspect. The Louisiana Purchase was seen as unconstitutional by many. However, it secured the American border as it protected against the French and Spanish. Jefferson has to go against his beliefs (in the Constitution) because he understood the threat it posed to the US. This moment was supports the mission of the US because it was done in order to protect and serve the citizens. Along similar lines, the Monroe Doctrine helped protect the US citizens from foreign threats. More importantly perhaps is the fact that is has lasted for nearly two hundred years. Presidents throughout time since Monroe have invoked this policy and as such is one of the most important policies the US has ever seen. The Constitution was set up in order to protect the US, both internally and externally. In that sense, it perhaps most supports my US mission statement. Creating a system of government is the most important method of keeping a group safe. A nation is stronger united than in separate entities.
1. Louisiana Purchase: Americans bought Thomas Jefferson sent Robert R. Livingston to Paris in 1801 after Spain gave France Louisiana. It was unconstitutional for the United States to acquire the territory, but Jefferson decided to make the purchase because France and Spain blocked American trades to the port of New Orleans. 2. Treaty Of Paris: Signed on January 14, 1784, the treaty ended the American Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the United States. Because of the lack of speedy communication, Americans in the countryside received the news until after the ratified versions were exchanged in Paris on May 12, 1784. 3. The Declaration of Independence: On July 4, 1776, announced that the thirteen colonies in America were no longer part of the British Empire. The declaration was made because America had been at war with Great Britain for over a year. Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, and John Adams all wrote and signed the Declaration.
During the time between 1776 and 1840, the mission of the United States government was to expand the nation. Many people of the time had the idea of “manifest destiny” and the leaders of the nation did too. The first step they took towards the mission was the Louisiana Purchase. The United States paid France 15 million dollars in 1803 for the land, which doubled the territory at the time. The Louisiana Purchase was a major step to expansion and was just the beginning. This territory was cheap and easily attained. The next step was the war of 1812. This war was between the United States and Britain. Although there were several reasons the war began, one was that the United States was striving to obtain more land by the Great Lakes and into Canada. After the war, the prewar territories were agreed on, but the government was still striving for that land by fighting. Nonetheless, the United States did gain territory in present day Florida. The final step was the exploration and settling of the west. This land was not bought in one group or fought over in war, but slowly claimed over time. The government was making treaties with other countries and the natives for this land. Also, they encouraged citizens to explore the land, which made it possible to claim the land. The process of settling the west was a slow moving one; however, it allowed the United States to span from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Ultimately, the government’s mission from 1776 to 1840 was to expand as a nation, and they did just that. When it was all said and done, the United States owned a vast majority of land from ocean to ocean and from Florida to Maine. Even though the process seemed slow, the mission was a success and the United States grew immensely.
The mission of the newly formed United States was to gain land that could be used for it's resources and to help build the new economy. In the east, the United States already had large cotton and tobacco farms, but they had just made war with one of the biggest purchasers of these goods. The west and and north into was is present day Canada offered many different opportunities for Americans to create different industries using these vast resources. The state of Pennsylvania was famous for it's dense woodland, but by this point in time the great forests had been chopped down and their resources gathered. The territories gained from the Louisiana purchase showed great promise in offering land full of new resources and opportunities. The fur trade, mining, and new fishing grounds were also available to the new settlers, and the north and western parts of the country were the best places to practice these new trades. The mission of the U.S. after the revolution was to gain resources so that the newly formed economy could be boosted into one of the most powerful in the world.
There were many things that the U.S were trying to accomplish, the main mission being that of gain more land to expand the nation. Three ways that the U.S did this was by the Declaration of Independence, the Louisiana Purchase and the war of 1812. The Declaration of Independence helped the U.S because without it they would have never been a strong enough government to with stand all of the issues that they had to face. Without it they would have never been able to ban together so strongly. The Declaration of Independence was the outlining of a new government, one where there were checks and balances, and equal representation. This was the U.S breaking free of the British and forming an new free nation with equal and natural rights. The Louisiana Purchase helped the U.S expand it bought a significant amount of land from the French. Finally the war of 1812, which was between the Americans and the British, gave the U.S more land, which they won from the British. All three of these things showed that the Americans were moving forward with their mission, they were moving towards the Manifest Destiny, the divine right that America should go from sea to shining sea, that they should expand through all of north America.
I believe the mission statement for america was to to expand the boarders through negotiation, peace talks to the Indians and then force. to stay out of european conflicts but also to show their power and how strong they were as a nation and to keep the national government out of the peoples lives. 1. Louisiana purchase- expanded the boarders and also peace treaties by the native americans helped expand also war erupted when the natives refused to move and that led to the even know as the trail of tears. 2. the singing of the treaty of Paris to end the war and they try to stay out of war but then America raged war on Britain agin in the war of 1812 this was important to show what America would do if necessary and to show they are not scared to challenge the strong powers of the world 3.Whiskey Rebellion- to show that the people didn't want the government to have to much power and to keep it in check so they didn't become to powerful
